Karaba

Rwanda

"Sustainable Harvest’s relationship with the Karaba cooperative is one example of the economic growth and social stability within the country. Sustainable Harvest connected Karaba growers to specialty coffee buyers, and pay the farmers far above the conventional coffee price. This access to higher paying markets is critical to the economic stability of small- scale growers, and reflects the quality of this rich coffee." The Karaba cooperative of Rwanda has wonderful superb growing conditions, heirloom Bourbon varieties of arabica and needed administrative and financial support from aid agencies and the work of importers like Sustainable Harvest. The Karaba coffee, in particular, is one that is an exclusive to Sustainable Harvest and is ranked among the world's finest and most distinctive. One buyer of the Karaba coffee is Allegro Coffee, a subsidiary of Whole Foods Market, offers one of the country's largest selections of single-origin coffees.

Ken David's Coffee Review (Sept 2007) Assessment: Intense, high-toned aroma: flowers, butterscotch, orange. In the cup wine-like acidity, deep body and a continued buttery, honeyed, giddily floral character complicated by tart cherry, orange and pipe tobacco notes. Long, rich, flavor-saturated finish.
