Implementing AcopioPlus in Peru

Posted by Wynne McAuley on June 14, 2013 at 11:58 AM

A new electronic coffee tracking system has transformed the way coffee is monitored at CAPEMA, a cooperative in Nueva Cajamarca, Peru. Known as AcopioPlus, the system allows both producers and buyers to track the payment, dispatch, and receipt of coffee throughout the supply chain. The system also reflects information about the quality of the coffee - such as humidity level - and centralizes all of this information on one electronic page, eliminating the need for many paper copies of the same information across coffee organizations. In Peru, AcopioPlus has improved the efficiency of the coffee supply chain and enhanced the quality of CAPEMA’s coffee.

photoWe worked with CAPEMA to implement AcopioPlus by providing technical expertise and equipment required for the system to run. Adjustments to the system were made to fit the specific needs of the cooperative, such as integration of cupping notes. This reflects CAPEMA’s dedication to quality and the flexibility of AcopioPlus.

CAPEMA is one of several cooperatives in Peru where Sustainable Harvest® is piloting the new system, which represents a cutting-edge strategy for managing the flow of merchandise and services within the coffee industry. Throughout the Alto Mayo region, the system has brought unprecedented tracking capabilities to areas where real time access to information has previously been unavailable. The ability of AcopioPlus to function without an internet connection means that even cooperatives in areas of poor connectivity have been able to reap the benefits of the system.
